AWG Best Choice® Family of Brands’ Save-A-Label Program Contributes $136,380 to Non-Profit Organizations in 2023

Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc. (AWG), in partnership with its member retailers, contributed $136,380 to non-profit organizations through the Best Choice® Family of Brands Save-A-Label® program in 2023. This community-giving project donates to schools and non-profit organizations while encouraging consumers to support their local independent grocers.


This simple program greatly impacts the AWG member retailers’ communities. In one year, the program turns more than 1.2 million cases of Best Choice® Family of Brands products purchased by consumers into funds to help organizations. Participants collect Best Choice®, Clearly by Best Choice™, or Best Choice® Superior Selections® product labels and send them into AWG for cash.


Schools and organizations simply need to have 501(c)(3) status to qualify for participation. While all the participating organizations have specific missions and causes they support, they all have one thing in common; they want to make their communities a better place. More than 1,250 groups participated in 2023.


“As a program many participating organizations rely on, Save-A-Label® has become a vital part of many communities,” said Rachel Corkill, AWG Brands Senior Marketing Specialist. “Many participants send in their thanks when they mail their labels saying they wouldn’t be able to do as much for their communities without it.”


The schools and non-profit organizations that participated in the Save-A-Label® program during 2023 used their donations in various ways. All the participating organizations have unique and personal methods to help the communities around them, from youth activities to community food pantries and hot meals for senior citizens to quilts for NICU patients.


The Save-A-Label® program was launched in 1987, two years after the introduction of the Best Choice® brand. It was initially developed as a short-term promotion to help local grocers support their communities, but it became so popular that it continued as a permanent program. In 2014, the Clearly by Best Choice® products were introduced, giving customers another way to earn funds. Best Choice® Superior Selections®, the newest member of the Best Choice® Family of Brands, came about in 2020, adding even more quality products for consumers to purchase and another brand that qualifies for the program.


“The AWG Brands team constantly works with AWG member retailers to promote the Save-A-Label® program,” said Emily Detwiler, Executive Director of AWG Brands. “By highlighting the program in their stores, AWG member retailers are helping to significantly impact and give back to their communities.”
