Wayne County Food Pantry and Backpack Program Receives AWG Cares Award Grant

Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant award in the amount of $3,000 to Wayne County Food Pantry and Backpack Program/Wayne First Presbyterian Church, in Wayne, NE. The grant request was submitted by Cynthia Puntney, a Nebraska Division Support Center employee.

The Wayne County Food Pantry and Backpack Program, based at the First Presbyterian Church in Wayne, NE, provides nutritious weekend food bags to local children experiencing food insecurity. Each bag includes simple, child‑friendly meals and snacks designed to support students’ health and readiness to learn when school meals aren’t available. The program, started in 2013, is free and open to all children, and Wayne State College SAAC members assist the pantry throughout the year.
