Norfolk, NE
Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant request in the amount of $3,000 to The Connection Project in Norfolk, NE. The grant request was submitted by Stephanie Vogt, AWG Nebraska Division employee.
The Connection Project is the only peer-run, non-profit organization located in Norfolk, and the Region IV Behavioral Health System. Their mission is to walk with people with mental health and/or substance use challenges on a journey toward recovery and wellness by building mutual relationships based on peer support principles. All employees and the majority of their board members are fellow peers who have dealt with challenges in mental health and/or substance use.
The Connection Project has been in operation since 2019 operating as a drop-in center for individuals looking to formulate and build relationships with others who have mental health and/or substance use challenges. Since opening the doors of the drop-in center, The Connection Project has had approximately 19,000 visits from over 1,000 unique individuals. The center sees, on average, 25 people per day. The Connection Project also serves as a hub for peer support education and expertise in the Norfolk, Nebraska area. As such, the organization provides Wellness Recovery Action Plan Facilitator, Intentional Peer Support, and other training for people and organizations working towards peer support credentialing.
