Spirit Lake, IA
Recently, AWG Cares provided a grant in the amount of $3,000 to Spirit Lake Protective Association (SLPA) in Spirit Lake, IA. The grant request was submitted by Dan Koolstra, AWG Nebraska Division Support Center employee.
The Spirit Lake Protective Association’s motto and simplified mission statement is “Quality of Water, Quality of Life.” Dan is a member of the Association and volunteers with them as time allows. Two of their main goals are water quality and conservation. This organization strives to keep the local history of the Iowa Great Lakes area intact, while being proactive to utilize conservation practices to protect the water quality.
With the recent flooding this year occurring in and around Dickinson County, water quality is a huge concern. Due to the rising waters, the local sanitary departments were forced to release waste water into the local lakes, which created issues with water quality. The SLPA helps to physically and financially mitigate these issues from going from bad to worse. The SLPA works in conjunction with all local municipalities to ensure quality water in the local area. With the flooding in the area, water is a commodity that cannot be compromised for the health and safety of the area.
Thank you, Dan, for donating to AWG Cares and submitting this grant request!
