Our Retailer Training programs generally fall under three categories: Department Operations, Store Operations and Management & Leadership. At the foundation of every program is a strong commitment to provide learning opportunities that have an immediate positive impact that will carry far into the future. Our workshops and courses are developed and presented by individuals who have extensive, varied experience in the grocery industry. They understand the challenges retailers face each and every day. Class participants also benefit from the knowledge shared by other retailers in the workshop.
Operators who invest in sanitation training show increased repeat customers, fresher product, improved customer service and improved profits. Participants who successfully complete this course and the exam will receive certification recognized by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals, National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, ServSafe and most local health departments.
Throughout the year, the Learning & Development Department sponsors Grocer’s Getaways – trips to visit leading-edge grocery operators in other areas of the United States. These trips offer AWG members an opportunity to gather new ideas and to see what’s working for supermarket retailers in other areas of the U.S. at a discounted rate. These trips also provide an opportunity to visit with retailers from other AWG division support centers and of course, see the sights and have some fun along the way.
